Everything you need to know — best zones, safari booking, what to pack, and how to get there.
Ranthambore National Park, located just 180 km from Jaipur, is one of India's most celebrated wildlife reserves and arguably the best place on the planet to see wild Bengal tigers up close. With over 70 tigers roaming freely across 1,334 sq km of mixed dry deciduous forest, ancient ruins, and sprawling lakes, Ranthambore offers a wildlife experience unlike any other. Here's everything you need to plan the perfect safari trip.
The park is open from October 1 to June 30. The peak season for tiger sightings is February to May, when the vegetation thins and tigers are forced to come to waterholes. October to January is pleasant weather-wise but sightings are fewer due to dense foliage. The park closes during monsoon (July–September).
Ranthambore is divided into 10 zones. Zones 1-5 are the core zones with the highest tiger density and best sighting probability. Zone 3 (around Rajbagh and Padam Talao lakes) and Zone 6 are particularly famous for regular tiger appearances. Zones 6-10 are buffer zones — less crowded, great for birdwatching, but lower tiger probability.
Safari slots are allocated by the forest department and zone selection is partially random. However, booking early increases your chances of getting preferred zones. Our team helps you with zone selection based on current tiger activity reports from guides inside the park.
Jeep Safari (6-seater): ₹1,800-2,500 per person. More intimate, better photography angles, and deeper access into narrow forest tracks. Strongly recommended for serious wildlife enthusiasts.
Canter Safari (20-seater): ₹1,200-1,500 per person. More economical, higher vantage point, but less maneuverable. Good for budget travelers and families with children.
Clothing: Earth tones and khakis — avoid bright colors. Layers for early morning safaris (it gets cold in open jeeps). Comfortable walking shoes.
Camera: A zoom lens (200mm minimum, 400mm+ ideal) is essential. Binoculars for birdwatching. Extra batteries — the cold drains them fast.
Essentials: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water bottle, light snacks. Keep phones on silent during the safari.
