Jodhpur Tour from Jaipur

Explore the Blue City's majestic Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and vibrant old city. 340 km from Jaipur, 5-hour drive.

The Blue City of Rajasthan

Jodhpur, the second largest city of Rajasthan, is nicknamed the "Blue City" for the sea of blue-painted houses that cascade down the hillside below the towering Mehrangarh Fort. From the fort's ramparts, the view of this ocean of indigo blue against the ochre desert landscape is one of the most extraordinary sights in India. Jodhpur is a city of superlatives — the fort is India's largest, the palace is among its most luxurious, and the old city bazaars among its most atmospheric.

Top Attractions in Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort: Rising 122 meters above the city on a sheer rocky outcrop, Mehrangarh is widely regarded as India's most impressive fort. Its massive walls, some up to 36 meters high, were never breached in battle. Inside, a series of beautifully decorated palaces — the Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, and Daulat Khana — house an extraordinary museum of royal artifacts, palanquins, royal cradles, miniature paintings, and armaments. The fort's cannonball-shaped handprints of sati queens at the entrance gate are among India's most haunting historical relics.

Umaid Bhawan Palace: Built between 1928 and 1943 during a devastating famine (to provide employment to 3,000 workers), this art deco masterpiece is one of the world's largest private residences. Part of it still serves as the official residence of the Jodhpur royal family. The Taj Hotels section is open to visitors for high tea and museum access — walking through its soaring marble corridors lined with vintage royal automobiles is an unforgettable experience.

Jaswant Thada: Built in 1899 as a memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, this intricate white marble cenotaph glows golden in the afternoon sun. Located just below Mehrangarh Fort, its translucent marble sheets allow light to filter through in a beautifully ethereal way. The garden around the memorial offers excellent views of the fort above.

Mandore Gardens: The ancient capital of the Marwar kingdom before Jodhpur was founded, Mandore (9 km from Jodhpur) contains royal cenotaphs of the Jodhpur rulers and a Hall of Heroes featuring 15 enormous figures carved from single rocks. Surrounded by a pleasant garden, it's a less-visited but historically significant site.

Old City Bazaars: Jodhpur's old city surrounding the Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) is a sensory explosion — the aroma of spices from the Spice Market, the flash of mirror-work textiles, the gleam of silver jewelry, and the sizzle of the famous Jodhpuri mirchi bada (stuffed chilli fritters) from roadside stalls. The Clock Tower area is the heart of old Jodhpur and a must-visit for any traveler.

Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park: A remarkable ecological restoration project at the base of Mehrangarh Fort, this 70-hectare park has restored the native desert ecology of the rocky hillside. A 2-hour walk through the park reveals extraordinary desert plants, rock formations, and views of the fort above and the blue city below.

Jodhpur Highlights

Jaipur to Jodhpur Drive

The 340 km drive from Jaipur to Jodhpur takes approximately 5 to 5.5 hours via NH-58, passing through Ajmer (130 km) and Pali (280 km). The route is well-maintained and scenically beautiful, passing through the Aravalli hills before flattening into the Marwar desert plateau. We recommend departing Jaipur by 6–7 AM to arrive in Jodhpur by noon, leaving the afternoon free for sightseeing.

Alternatively, the route can include a 2-hour stop at Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Pushkar, departing Jaipur a day earlier for a comprehensive 4-day Jaipur → Ajmer → Pushkar → Jodhpur tour.
